James A. Sprowell, MD

Dr. Sprowell is board certified with the American Board of Family Medicine, and is the Chief Executive Officer for Associates in Family Medicine , P.C. , with 7 offices in Northern Colorado. Dr. Sprowell attended the University of Iowa College of Medicine, and completed his graduate medical education in Duluth , Minnesota in 1988. Dr. Sprowell joined AFM in 1994 and transitioned into full-time administrative medicine in 2006 after serving for many years as President and Medical Director. Dr. Sprowell also serves on the Poudre Valley Health System Board of Directors, Chair of the Primary Care Service Line for University of Colorado Health north, and serves as a faculty advisor on the claims review committee for Copic Insurance Company in Denver. Although Dr. Sprowell no longer provides direct patient care, his professional interests include promotion of evidenced based medicine, quality improvement and patient safety. Dr. Sprowell has been an advocate for physician owned independent medical groups and also believes in the importance of clinical integration. Dr. Sprowell has been married for 35 years, and has three delightful grown children. He enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, tennis, and golf.
